Dr. Murphy (she/they) is the Director of the Women in Science and Engineering Program. She also holds an appointment as associate research professor within the University of Arizona's Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW). Since earning her doctoral degree in Gender and Women Studies with a focus on social/cultural geography, feminist theory, and interdisciplinary methodology in 2017, Dr. Murphy has conducted applied research, program evaluation, teaching/training in the areas of gender equity in education and employment, with special attention to STEM fields. She also has experience developing, implementing, and evaluating culturally-informed community based programs and institutional interventions. As an immigrant and the first in her family to attend college, Dr. Murphy is deeply invested in making STEM education more accessible to underserved communities here in Southern Arizona.
